BlackBerry hit with European Commission snub

BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion today suffered a fresh blow as the European Commission decided not to use the mobile devices.

The EC chose Apple's iPhone and Taiwanese firm HTC's smartphones as the "most suitable" for voice and email communications.

It was not clear if there was any link to the security row which has embroiled RIM. Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, India and Kuwait have all threatened to restrict the use of BlackBerrys over security fears.

RIM today insisted customers should have "confidence in the integrity of the security architecture without fear of compromise".
