Bankers don’t presently lack for opportunities to get fired. December offers another: the office Christmas party.

A survey of City workers say 10% know of colleagues who have been disciplined or fired for “inappropriate romantic activity”, the greatest cause of HR disputes in December in the Square Mile.

The research reveals that one in three staff in the UK admitted to having sexual relations when drunk with a colleague on the night of the office Christmas party, with 64% admitting it made things awkward at work afterwards. Additionally just over half said that they had kissed the boss or a colleague at the annual do.

The research was compiled by dating site AshleyMadison.com. Noel Biderman, founder of AshleyMadison, said “Inappropriate sexual relations at the office christmas Officeparty can be damaging to employees’ reputations and in these financially straitened times City firms are taking a dim view of this kind of bad behaviour.”

The research was compiled in conjunction with the HR departments of leading firms.
