Google to confirm move to King’s Cross

Old-world charm: the station’s Victorian facade by Lewis Cubitt will open onto a new King’s Cross Square

American technology giant Google is set to confirm its UK headquarters move to King’s Cross in a matter of days.

In a deal valued at more than £500 million, the group will create a 1 million-square-foot office hub at King’s Cross Central, the 67-acre office, homes and shops scheme to the north of King’s Cross station.

Google’s hub will be a collection of buildings in the south-east corner of the scheme, near the station’s new ticket hall.

Argent, the developer of King’s Cross, has been in talks with Google about the move for years. The complex deal has taken months to finalise after Google and Argent signed an exclusivity agreement last March.

The lease of its current London headquarters, at 123 Buckingham Palace Road in Victoria, ends in 2016.

Google joins Central St Martins College, BNP Paribas Real Estate and Camden Council at the King’s Cross scheme.
