US football fans can stay tuned into TV channel NBC after the broadcaster struck a deal to extend its rights to show Premier League games for another six years.

NBC has been the home to top flight British football in the US since 2013, when it paid £160 million in return for permission to show the league's 380 matches a year.

The new arrangment means NBC will hold the US broadcasting rights until the 2021-22 season. Financial terms were not disclosed.

NBC, which is part of the world's largest cable company Comcast, has seen healthy growth in viewership of Premier League fixtures.

Last year, around 479,000 people watched the games, up 9% on the 2013-14 season.

"We are excited to continue our tremendous partnership with the Premier League, and we look forward to presenting the world’s finest football league to Americans for many years to come," said NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus.

"As sports fans, there’s nothing better than waking up on a weekend morning to live and relevant events."

Premier League Executive Chairman Richard Scudamore said: "NBC Sports has done a fantastic job broadcasting the Barclays Premier League for the last two seasons and we are extremely pleased that they have invested in our U.S. rights."
