OnlyFans content creator who made $5 million invests in rival platform

An OnlyFans adult content creator who made over $5 million (£4.2 million) from the site has decided to jump ship and invest her earnings in a rival platform.

Florida-based Bryce Adams became the most-liked page on OnlyFans after tentatively creating an account with her boyfriend in January 2021.

Adams told the Standard: “We started looking around at the competition and bought some of their stuff and thought we can do this better than them.”

“We did a bunch of tests to see what works and what doesn’t, and we approached it as a business.”

Adams has used the proceeds to make a six-figure investment in rival Fanvue, which showcases the work of creators in music, art, fashion and film alongside content for a more adult audience.

“This has been really cool because now they’re offering creatives to be able to take part in the company and that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that,” she said. “They are looking to hear from creators and move quickly on what are the features they would like to see.”

OnlyFans has ballooned in popularity since the beginning of the pandemic, with the company having paid out millions of pounds to adult content creators and taking on as many as 1,000 employees.

The firm’s growth has not been without controversy. Last year, a BBC investigation found the platform was failing to prevent underage users from selling and appearing in explicit videos. Adams says she hopes content moderation will be a priority on Fanvue.

“We need to find an actual great solution that’s going to be effective and implementable and not a temporary band aid solution,” Adams said. “I have full confidence that they can do that.”

The six-figure commitment to the series A funding round is Adams’ first major foray into venture capital fundraising, highlighting the extreme earning potential new technology has opened to younger people snubbing traditional career paths. Content creators make an average of £74,000 a year, according to employment site Comparably.

Adams says the move could mark the start of a career in investing.

“If there’s an investment opportunity, I’ll try that out, we’ll see where that takes us, maybe I’ll end up doing more investments in new platforms or more businesses in tech.”
