Shanks boss Tom Drury makes a 'lifestyle choice' and quits

11 April 2012

A pay package worth £840,000 and an office in the heart of concrete cow land, Milton Keynes: that's what the chief executive of waste group Shanks today gave up to escape a lengthy commute.

Tom Drury was sick of spending four nights away from his home in Cheshire and driving up and down the M6 toll road.

Now Drury, who has been married to wife Jane for more than 25 years and has two children, is giving that up to work closer to home at a small debt-recovery firm, Arrow Global.

Drury, who said his move was "a lifestyle decision", will leave the company before October 31.

Shanks said the search to find his replacement was underway.

Chairman Adrian Auer said: "We will be sorry to see Tom go, but respect his decision to work nearer to his home in Cheshire. He will leave the business in very good shape."

Shares in the firm fell 0.8p to 126.3p.
