Luxury retailers in St James’s on Monday revealed they had a spike in weekend sales, boosted by scores of apparel fans descending on the area for London Fashion Week Men’s (LFWM).

The bi-annual showcase of menswear included an open-air catwalk event that closed down Jermyn Street on Saturday. It was attended by buyers, designers, shoppers and tourists.

Knitwear brand John Smedley said it’s St James’s store saw sales more than double from an average Saturday. Footfall was up 64%.

Shirt maker Harvie & Hudson said turnover was up 15%, with a number of American and Australian customers coming through the doors. Men's tailoring business New & Lingwood also cheered higher footfall.

LFWM chairman Dylan Jones said the event “is having a huge effect on London, not least because it is creating a halo effect around menswear, making men more interested in clothes, and driving them to shop”.

LFWM started on June 9 and ends on June 11.
