Talking Point: Are you ready to return to the office?

An exclusive survey in the Standard today revealed that two-thirds of Londoners would be happy to return to the office.

Asked whether they would consider returning in line with the Government’s target to end social distancing in June, the data demonstrated growing confidence among commuters.

But the survey also pointed out the factors that might still hold people back, such as cost and the health risk of busy public transport.

Yesterday we asked for your take on the European Super League controversy.

Some of you didn’t see too much of an issue - Chris Smith commented: “I don’t see what the problem is. If those teams want to make their own league, playing midweek without disruption to their current commitments what is the issue? Squads are big enough now for more games so it might mean fringe players get more chances to play.

Danny Peacock, meanwhile, suggested that it wouldn’t be a problem provided it was for the right reasons. “In principle a European Super League ‘IS’ a good idea.. but it must be done on merit. Qualification by performance, not by bank balance and brand!”

Most of you, however, were in agreement that the ESL is a bad idea. “Ajax5” commented that the decision “emphasises if it were necessary the difference between Chairmen and Money and the fans on the terraces and the rest of people in the game.”

Micky Provost also highlighted the importance of fans to football: “Remember where football started and who it belongs to and that is the FANS! that pay good money to go and watch their teams play, without the fans there is no football, do you think the season has been an exciting season? NO!, yes we are still playing through the pandemic but without the fans in the stadiums it is not the same.”

Alan Marshall was similarly concerned about indifference to fans: “It doesn’t matter what we think. This is what corporations do. They look for the maximum financial return on their investments. Indifferent to the consequences to the fans, but mindful of the size of their bonuses...”

According to Katie Owen, “everyone thinks it’s a ridiculous, embarrassing and greedy idea.” Nicole Virden added: “Gary Neville is 1,000% correct.”
