Artist paints Mona Lisa miniature, using his eyelash

The miniature version of the Mona Lisa
8 August 2017

Artist Willard Wigan used one of his eyelashes to paint his latest miniature masterpiece — a version of the Mona Lisa so small it would fit in one eye of the sitter in the original painting.

Wigan, 60, whose work includes a portrait of the Queen cut into a coffee bean, asked convicted forger John Myatt to create a full-size replica of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting.

Wigan then painted on a piece of nylon the size of a pinhead and framed it in gold before placing it in the left eye of the copy.

He said: “I hated every moment of it. Painting something that size leaves no room for mistakes.”
