Hot Tickets - Weekend comedy

Best medicine: Doctor Brown can be found clowning around at Soho Theatre
5 April 2012

Here are the biggest comedy gigs in the capital this weekend...

Paul Foot/Doctor Brown
It must be oddballs week in Soho, with two of the strangest acts on the circuit performing separate shows. Foot is a highly eccentric, surreal reincarnation of Frankie Howerd, while Brown is an almost silent clown who thrives on terrifyingly funny audience interaction.
Until Sat 1 Oct, Soho Theatre, W1 (020 7478 0100, http://sohotheatre.com/)

Lee Evans
Every tour cements his reputation as one of the UK's biggest draws. This is sweaty, highly physical stand-up at full throttle, with Evans galloping through his gripes, from greedy bankers to IKEA shopping via bad night-time driving, or, as he likes to call it, "beam jousting".
Until Sunday 2 Oct, O2 Arena, SE10 (0844 815 0815, leeevans2011tour)

Alun Cochrane
In television's rush to make stars of countless storytellers this lanky mirth merchant seems to have been overlooked. Cochrane crops up on the occasional panel show but is maybe too laid-back for the box. You'll be sure to warm to his exquisitely observed tales.
Sunday 2 Oct, Bloomsbury Theatre, WC1
(020 7388 8822, thebloomsbury.com)
