Inheritance review: Spectacularly implausible thriller should have stayed buried

Dud: Lily Collins and Patrick Warburton in Inheritance

In Vaughn Stein’s spectacularly implausible thriller, foetus-faced Lily Collins plays a tough, principled New York DA. Lauren is juggling work, marriage, motherhood and some bad news.

Her recently deceased tycoon dad (Patrick Warburton) had an underground hideaway, where he’s been keeping a man in chains. For 30 years. The captive’s name is Morgan (Simon Pegg; a dead ringer for Bowie, in Labyrinth) and he has a few secrets of his own.

Lauren is 30 years old (can you tell where this plot is going?) and has always viewed her ruthless, snobbish, dad as the root of all evil.

Her eyes are about to be opened. Inheritance is Parasite for entitled pillocks and what’s astounding is that this is the second time Pegg has worked with Stein, whose 2018 debut Terminal was also hogwash. Once bitten, Pegg has come back for more.

The tagline on the poster is “some secrets should stay buried”. So should some films.
