The Forgiveness of Blood - review

The Forgiveness of Blood
10 August 2012

Set in rural Albania, Joshua Marston’s film examines what happens when a family blood feud can almost destroy children who had no part in it.

Marston concentrates on a family whose father has helped kill a pesky neighbour, thus invoking a blood feud. His son Nik (Tristan Halilaj), is trapped in the house, fearful of going out. His daughter Rudina (Sindi Lacej), has to drive the horse and cart through the local village to ply father’s trade after he has absconded.

The awful ruin ancient feuds impose is well documented in a slow but totally authentic-looking film with an excellent cast, not all of whom are professionals.
