A rare demo recorded by Ed Sheeran at the age of 13 has been sold at auction for £50,000.

It’s one of 20 copies of Spinning Man, the first collection of songs the singer-songwriter recorded as a teenager.

The demo was sold on Tuesday at Omega Auctions, with auctioneers stating that the final price including buyer’s premium could be as high as £61,500.

Sheeran previously revealed that he has 19 copies of Spinning Man currently in his possession in a bid to keep others from hearing it.

"We expected it to sell well, but that certainly exceeded our expectations," said Paul Fairweather, from Omega Auctions.

"It was a fierce battle between four or five very serious bidders and we were blown away with the final price."

Spinning Man includes the rare tracks Addicted, Misery and Typical Average, and was inspired by Sheeran's first relationship.

Meanwhile, Sheeran recently confirmed that his wife Cherry has given birth to their first child, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
