A performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra recorded in the National Gallery during lockdown is set to be broadcast this weekend.

The gallery, which closed during the pandemic for the first time in its 196-year history, worked with the orchestra to showcase art and music and in honour of pianist Myra Hess.

Hess organised the gallery’s famous lunchtime concerts during the Second World War.

The performance was recorded in July in the gallery’s Barry Rooms, where the wartime concerts also took place, and features music selected to complement the paintings that surround them.

It will go live on Saturday at 10am on the gallery’s YouTube channel and at nationalgallery.org.uk/stories/lpo.
