The Crucible Theatre’s acclaimed production of Life of Pi will come to the London stage next year.

Fresh from five star reviews in Sheffield, the play will open at the Wyndham’s Theatre in June.

Yann Martel’s bestselling novel, adapted for the stage by Lolita Chakrabarti, tells a story of a ship-wrecked teenage boy who survives in the Pacific Ocean in a lifeboat with a zebra, orangutan, hyena and tiger for company.

Max Webster returns to direct the transfer, with designs from Tim Hatley and puppets made by Finn Caldwell and Nick Barnes. There will be compositions by Andrew T. Mackay, lighting by Tim Lutkin, video by Andrzej Goulding and sound by Carolyn Downing.

The cast for the transfer is yet to be announced.

Chakrabarti won the 2012 Evening Standard Theatre Award for most promising playwright for Red Velvet.

Martel’s book won the Man Booker Prize and was made into a film in 2012, directed by Ang Lee and starring Irfan Khan and Suraj Sharma as the two ages of Pi Patel.

Life Of Pi will begin previews at the Wyndham’s on June 22 for an initial 15 week run.

Tickets go on general sale on Monday October 14, but you can buy pre-sale tickets with GO London from midday today here.
