Offside: Women's football play to be performed at football grounds around the UK

A play about women’s football is getting a UK tour - which will see it performed on at a number of different football grounds.

Offside by Sabrina Mahfouz and Hollie McNish uses poetry and prose to tell the story of four women from different ages who have made a significant impact on the game.

The story of two fictional characters representing contemporary football are told alongside those of Emma Clarke, the first black female professional football player, and Lily Parr, who played for Dick Kerr Ladies at the time women were banned from playing on FA pitches.

The play will be performed at Leyton Orient FC, Brighton & Hove Albion and Lewes FC, and has already been performed at Queen’s Park Rangers FC.

It will also be performed at a number of venues around the UK. It has been produced by Futures Theatre, a company that promotes fairness for women and girls and works to tell their untold stories.

The company worked alongside the Imperial War Museum and National Football Museum in Manchester, as well as with Manchester City Women’s FC and Millwall Lionesses as part of research from the play.
