Pinter’s Betrayal starring Tom Hiddleston: Exclusive first look at Jamie Lloyd's production

1/18

Fans got their first glimpse of Tom Hiddleston’s return to the London stage in the new production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal.

The actor, who won an Evening Standard Theatre Award in 2014 for Coriolanus, stars alongside Zawe Ashton and Charlie Cox in Jamie Lloyd’s revival of the 1978 play.

Inspired by Pinter’s own affair with broadcaster Joan Bakewell, Hiddleston plays Robert, who is married to Emma (Ashton) − who is having an affair with his friend Jerry (Cox).

The play, directed by Jamie Lloyd, is the final production in the star-studded six-month long Pinter at the Pinter season. It marks ten years since the Nobel Prize-winning playwright’s death and has featured performances from Danny Dyer , Tamsin Greig , Tracy Ann Oberman , Martin Freeman, Paapa Essiedu and Jane Horrocks.

Hiddleston last appeared on stage in a production of Hamlet directed by Kenneth Branagh at RADA. Only 3,000 people were able to see the show; tickets were allocated by ballot with proceeds going towards new facilities for the drama school.

Betrayal runs at the Harold Pinter Theatre until June 1.
