Adorable new This Morning guide dog Digby has caused a bit of bother for presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield by refusing to stop barking during the show before managing to bang his head on a table.

As the hosts attempted to give viewers details on the items coming up in the programme, they were interrupted by Digby’s noisy barking.

Then, later in the programme the excitable animal managed to bang his head on a coffee table causing the crew to laugh as Willoughby looked on in shock.

The presenters explained to viewers that they were 'ignoring' the Labrador and Golden Retriever cross puppy as ‘part of his training’, comparing him to a ‘toddler’.

“Now you might think we’re being a bit cruel by not saying anything to gorgeous Digby here but this barking thing is a THING. So like a toddler, we’re going to ignore the behaviour,” she said.

“We’re just gonna ignore it we’re not going to give him any reaction because as soon as we react then he knows that the barking noise works.”

Meanwhile Schofield admitted he been ‘shouted at’ by his presenting partner Willoughby for reacting to the dog.

“I made a mistake last week because I reacted to the barking and then I got shouted at by you,” he told his co-host.

Adding: “He’s been to puppy training this week as well, fat lot of good that did.”

As the pair continued to discuss the problem puppy, Digby kept barking and in the end was forced to give the dog back to his trainer.

“Maybe he wants to go back to his trainer. Let’s let him go,” said Schofield.

This Morning continues weekdays 10.30am on ITV.
