Game of Thrones fans' hopes for an Arya Stark spin-off have been completely dashed, despite gaining traction from cast members.

But programming president Casey Bloys shot down the idea of a show – no matter how short – about Arya’s travels west of Westeros because it “doesn’t make sense”.

“Nope, nope, nope. No,” Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter when asked. “Part of it is, I do want this show — this Game of Thrones, Dan [Weiss] and David [Benioff]’s show — to be its own thing.

“I don't want to take characters from this world that they did beautifully and put them off into another world with someone else creating it. I want to let it be the artistic piece they've got.”

He added that “a sequel or picking up any of the other characters doesn't make sense” because they wanted to be “distinct” from George RR Martin’s “massive” world and not “redo” the same show.

Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lannister, shared his thoughts on the final ever episode of the HBO show with his Instagram followers in a short video – beginning with showing off how many viewers the finale pulled in.

“So how about that final episode? Most viewers ever - but it’s over,” he said. “It’s kind of sad. What a great 10 years. Thank you so much for watching. I’m just grateful. That episode, it was amazing! I really thought it was a great ending.”

He then referenced social media chat about Arya being the subject of a new show as she explores what is west of the land she called home.

Coster-Waldau said: “I know they’re doing all these prequels, but what about the sequel? With Arya?

“How about - I’m just throwing something out here… How about a petition? An online petition to HBO that they do a sequel with Arya Stark.”

It now looks unlikely that a petition would do any good convincing the American broadcaster regardless of who backs the call.
