Breaking Bad fans who aren’t up to date with spin-off series Better Call Saul are going to want to get caught up ahead of Season 3.
A new teaser video for the show’s return has confirmed the appearance of one of Breaking Bad’s most memorable and menacing characters.
Yes, Giancarlo Esposito is back as Gus Fring, the drug kingpin who waged war with Walter White in Breaking Bad’s third and fourth seasons.
The new teaser clip shows a TV advert for Fring’s fried chicken chain Los Pollos Hermanos, which he uses as a front for his drug empire.
The fan-favourite character has a calm and stoic temperament, but is absolutely ruthless in his goals and ambitions – killing off swathes of a cartel, and delivering one of the show’s goriest moments with the help of a box-cutter.
Better Call Saul is largely set before the events of Breaking Bad, following the career of crooked lawyer Saul Goodman, who entered Breaking Bad in Season 2.
Other characters from the main series to appear in the prequel include Fring’s right-hand man Mike Ehrmentraut, and the Salamanca crime family.

Tweeting about his return, Esposito hinted that Fring will be a major character in the coming episodes of Better Call Saul, which will depict his ‘rise’.
“I'm back!!” he wrote. “What you've been waiting for, the rise of Gus is coming!”
The premiere date for Season 3 has not yet been announced, but the previous two seasons have debuted in early February. The show is distributed in the UK on Netflix.
