While series one of The Crown gave viewers a dramatised look at the ins and outs of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s early days marriage, those after a more factual version of events should tune into new BBC documentary Elizabeth and Philip: Love and Duty.

Here’s everything you need to know about the show.

What’s it about?

To celebrate the Queen and her consort’s 70th anniversary, the BBC is taking a look back over their decades together and the many marital milestones they’ve shared.

From the death of Princess Diana to the birth of their great grandchildren, the show follows the ups and downs of the enduring relationship, and tries to establish whether it’s love, duty or a combination of two that has kept the very different characters together.

Who’s presenting it?

Desert Island Discs host Kirsty Young will be swapping the radio for the royal archives as she pays tribute to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

She starts with the pair’s first fateful encounter in 1939 when then Princess Elizabeth was just 13, guiding viewers all the way to current day, looking at Philip’s transition into retirement from public life.
