Former Generation Game host Jim Davidson has said that Mel & Sue "aren't right" to present the rebooted series of the show.

Davidson, who fronted the show between 1995 and 2001, has said the presenting duo are the wrong fit for the upcoming series, but admitted he doesn’t actually know who they are.

In an interview in The Sun, he said: “They’re not right, they won’t know how to ad-lib. They’re not there to teach them how to bake a f****** cake.

“I don’t know these women, I’ve never heard of them but you need someone that’s going to be able to ad-lib and drive the show along.

“That’s why Bruce was so good. He drove it along his way.

“He was the energy. You can’t remember any of the people on it, all you remember is Bruce.”

The BBC was said to be concerned that the series wouldn’t live up to expectations.

“The BBC had announced four programmes, but when they saw what had been taped could only realistically air two,” a source told The Sun.

A spokesperson for the BBC confirmed the changes but promised the show would still be 'brilliant'.

“During the production process it’s not unusual for a new series to change length as the format evolves and we’ve got a brilliant show for audiences on BBC One this spring,” they said.

The Generation Game comes to BBC One later this year.
