Game of Thrones finally revealed the fate of Ed Sheeran’s character as the redheaded Lannister soldier succumbed to a gruesome injury.

But we never did find out what happened to young Eddie after he headed out into the wilderness – until now, in the season eight premiere.

“That boy Eddie,” explained Bronn. “Came back with his face burned right off. He’s got no eyelids now.”

While the dialogue doesn’t confirm whether a singed Sheeran survived or not, it suggests his character got the full gruesome Game of Thrones treatment for his cameo.

Fans of the hit HBO show were left bewildered when the Shape Of You singer cropped up in an episode last year, quickly hailing it the “most wtf moment in the show”.

Showrunner David Benioff had previously explained that the cameo was a present to long-standing cast member Williams, who had long mentioned her love for Sheeran.

“We knew that Maisie [Williams] was a big fan of Ed Sheeran and for years we’ve been trying to get him on the show so we can surprise Maisie,” he said in March 2017. “This year we finally did it.”

Sheeran later said that he “wished he had been killed off” in the short scene, joking that it would have been “redemption” for those who were baffled by his part in the show.

He told BuzzFeed: “I'm sure they [the fans] think my character got brutally, brutally murdered, but I think my character is still out there. I think he's chillin'.

“I definitely think they should've killed me off in the episode. I reckon that probably would've been the redemption for people that didn't like it.”
