Jeremy Kyle threatened a guest with libel action after he taunted the host about the breakdown of his marriage and divorce.

Cocky guest, Lewis, appeared on The Jeremy Kyle Show accused of cheating on his girlfriend – which turned out to be true.

He irked viewers by demanding to see the lie detector results and then tearing up the copy while smirking.

But his antics also got under Kyle’s skin as he berated him for saying “things that aren’t true” and bandied about the threat of further action.

As Lewis repeatedly asked Kyle “where’s your wife”, he responded: “I don't have a wife. I'm divorced, and...?”

But Lewis kept on poking as he retorted: “Were you cheating?” as his estranged partner shouted at him asking what “disrespecting him” has to do with their appearance.

Infuriated, Kyle hit back: “No, I wasn't. What I could do is sue you for libel.

"Don't say things that aren't true, liar.”

But Lewis, who had told the presenter he didn’t like him during the advert break, simply dismissed him and branded him a “clown”.

The Jeremy Kyle Show airs weekdays at 9.25am on ITV.
