BBC viewers hit out at Dermot O’Leary for “not sitting straight” and “mumbling” as he covered the royal wedding for the broadcaster.

The X Factor host was part of the coverage, alongside Kirsty Young and Huw Edwards, as Prince Harry married Meghan Markle.

The ceremony took place at Windsor Castle where O’Leary was stationed from 9am on Saturday, ensuring viewers had the latest news and were up-to-date-with all the action.

But not all viewers were totally on board with the X Factor presenter’s coverage, with some calling him an “odd choice”.

Writing on Twitter, one said: “Dermot O'leary needs to stop slouching and mumbling. This is a royal occasion.”

While another posted: “#RoyalWedding @BBCOne Would be nice if Dermot O'Leary could act like a proper BBC presenter by sitting up straight and speaking clearer. He looks and sounds like a total mess beside Kirstie. Quite embarrassing and a real shame that he's been chosen to host such a special day.”

“Re: BBC wedding coverage - could Dermot O’Leary be any less interested in hosting this?! #royalwedding #BBC #BBCroyalwedding,” added a third.

Several viewers thought O’Leary looked “disinterested” in the day, although others praised the radio presenter for his work.

“@radioleary you have done so well you are looking so smart, at home #RoyalWedding,” wrote one user.

Another gushed: “Kirsty Young and Dermot O'Leary are the new Holly and Phil. #royalwedding.”

Highlights of the day will be on BBC Two at 7pm tonight.
