Viewers were left shocked as Honey G won her first X Factor sing-off while Ryan Lawrie was sent home.

Fans seemed convinced that the ‘North Weezy’ rapper’s time was up when she found herself in the bottom two on Sunday night’s show.

But Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne all voted to save Honey, with just Lawrie’s mentor Nicole Scherzinger opting to keep him on the show.

“That was bizarre. Look, Ryan you were my wild card pick and I think what you’ve done has been incredible but you’re been in the bottom two a lot,” said Cowell.

“I think it should go to deadlock but based on the sing-off, the person who wanted it more was Honey G.”

While Osbourne predictably decided to save her own act, Walsh added: “It was a really good sing-off but the person I’m sending home is Ryan."

Many viewers were quick to dub the show a ‘farce’ on Twitter following the shock decision.

“What a SCANDAL and JOKE They send Ryan home I can't believe it. #XFactor,” wrote one person.

“Absolutely shocking. Singing competition mind? The judges need there head testing! Gone to far...#Xfactor #AJoke,” wrote someone else.

Another fuming fan posted: “I refuse to tweet her name. She doesn't deserve the publicity. What an absolute farce. #XFactor.”

1/9

Lawrie’s girlfriend Emily Middlemas made it through to next week’s show, as did Saara Aalto, Five After Midnight and Matt Terry.

Terry was the star of the show during Saturday’s movie-themed night, blowing the judges away with his rendition of Sam Smith’s Bond theme The Writing’s on the Wall.

His mentor Nicole Scherzinger was left in tears after the performance, while Cowell said it was ‘annoying’ that Terry wasn’t in his category.

“This is what we’ve been waiting for,” he said. “To use Nicole’s favourite expression, that took balls.”

Remaining band 5 after Midnight also impressed with their version of Try a Little Tenderness, despite the fact that Cowell told them that it ‘wasn’t as good as last week’.

Altoo gave mentor Sharon Osbourne ‘goosebumps’ during her rendition of Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On.
