Theatre festival puts women in spotlight

Zoe Mavroudi in Beauty is Prison Time
5 April 2012

The Gaea Theatre Festival has announced an extension for its show Beauty is Prison Time.

The production forms part of the month-long celebration of women playwrights, performers, directors and designers at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre.

Written and performed by Greek playwright, Zoe
Mavroudi, it tells the story of a Siberian prison hosting a beauty pageant, for which the prize is parole.

Other shows in the festival include the rather timely Nine, which addresses what could potentially happen when the system under which we live goes insane. Plus, I'll Show You Mine, about a six-year-old girl's lessons on surviving childhood.

All plays are in rep until August 31.
