An international showcase for the world's best photographers, the annual Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is going on display at the Natural History Museum.

Running since 1964, the competition receives thousands of entries from around the world. The best pictures, ranging from colourful landscapes to intimate portraits of animal behaviour, go on display at the museum for six months.

Those interested in improving their own photography skills should head for the Behind the Lens events being held 21-25 October. This year's award-winners will be on hand discussing their experiences, whether they be diving into freezing oceans, perching on treetops or remaining motionless for hours in search of that perfect shot.
