The world’s most expensive steak has gone on sale at Aldi for £7.29

The Wagyu ribeye steak would usually set you back £90

You don’t have to head to one of the capital’s finest chop houses to enjoy a great steak - simply head to your local Aldi.

The discount supermarket has started selling the world’s most expensive steak - prime cuts of Wagyu beef from New Zealand - for a wallet-friendly £7.29.

Many London restaurants charge £90 for an 8oz serving of the posh steak, but you can now pick one up for the same price as a cheap bottle of wine.

The budget Wagyu range features both a ribeye beef steak and a sirloin beef steak.

The distinctive taste is often referred to as the best in the world, thanks to its signature marbling of fat, which melts into the meat while it cooks.

According to the supermarket, the premium beef comes from cattle that are bred and grass-fed on open New Zealand pastures.

‘By sourcing from only the finest Wagyu producers in New Zealand, Aldi continues to offer unique and premium quality at everyday low prices, providing customers with significant savings without compromise,’ said Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi.

However, if you plan to head to Aldi with an empty suitcase, you’re going to be disappointed as the supermarket chain is imposing a two-steak limit on every customer.

50,000 of the steaks arrived in stores this week - so if you want to be one of the lucky shoppers that’s enjoying a steak sandwich tonight, you better get yourself down there quickly.
