The much-loved Brasserie Zédel is once again celebrating Epiphany by offering Londoners a free meal on the first Sunday of the year, January 8.

From 11.30am until 10.30pm, any customer wearing a crown – or better yet, full regalia – will receive a complimentary three course meal with wine and coffee from the Piccadilly Circus institution.

Now something of a tradition, the annual event is unsurprisingly expected to be extremely busy and booking is advised. Owing to the expected demand, only telephone reservations are being accepted. The number is 020 7734 4888.

The menu includes a starter of Céleri Rémoulade, Bœuf Bourguignon or Truite de Mer Grillée for mains, and Ile Flottante for pudding.

Epiphany, the twelfth day of Christmas and the official end to the festive period, falls on January 6. Sometimes known as Three Kings Day, it is typically celebrated with a feast and, as the name suggests, marks the day the Kings – Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar – visited Jesus in his Bethlehem, as well as the day Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist. The day was once celebrated as keenly as Christmas Day itself.
