London welcomes Oktoberfest

London's beer drinkers will have extra cause for celebration this month as the capital taps into the world’s most famous beer festival, Munich's legendary Oktoberfest.

London's trendy Limeburner Lane will be filled with the famous Bavarian Erdinger beer, bratwurst and pretzels on October 15th, 22nd and 29th, while pub chain JD Wetherspoon will celebrate the event on October 17 by offering up to 35 different beers.

If you're after a truly authentic Oktoberfest experience, Limeburner Lane will have all the trimmings of traditional Bavarian music, yodelling and blonde beer waitresses, as well as the world-renowned Bavarian Olympics.

Two of the traditional highlights are Fingerhakeln (two contestants 'wrestle' with their middle fingers to try to pull the opponent over the table and into submission); and Masskrug-Stemmen (contestants carry steins with straight arms in a test of endurance).

But if downing fine ales is your thing, then try out the chain of JD Wetherspoon pubs across London to sample some of the finest hops from around Europe.

The beers on offer include St Georgen Brau Keller Bier from Germany, Herold Schwartz Bier from the Czech Republic, Kelham Island Pale Rider (Champion Beer of Britain 2004 at the Great British Beer Festival), plus many, many more
