Best for all-day dining: Hubbard & Bell

The latest opening from Soho House, this is the place that Holborn has always lacked. Set in the new Hoxton Holborn Hotel, it’s a big all-day venue, with a large breakfast and brunch menu — avocado toast (£8) gets a little extra crunch from the addition of pistachios. It morphs into a restaurant and cocktail bar with DJs by night.

Best for lazy weekends: No 11 Pimlico Road

After a chic makeover heavy on muted greys and Scandi-style furniture, this a gorgeous place to spend a weekend morning with the papers. With lots of eggy options, pancakes and pastries, you could easily end up having two courses — make one of them avocado toast with feta cheese and chilli oil (£7.95).

Best for wholesome types: Healthy Stuff

This little café and shop focuses on wholesome food and has a small but perfect breakfast menu. Avocado comes with sea salt and chilli flakes on delicious E5 Bakehouse sourdough bread, or with smoked salmon and horseradish on rye bread (£5) — just right with a cup of Climpson & Son’s coffee, or a smoothie.
