Roofnic: rooftop picnic spot pops-up above Oxford Street
From May 23 pop-up project Roofnic will take over the roof of the Marriot Hotel Park Lane, offering Londoners a place to picnic on high in central London.
Accessible from Oxford Street, the four-storeys-high space has been kitted out in AstroTurf and adorned with pots of herbs, flowers, trees and rustic wooden benches to create a look that’s much more rural than its location.
The space will also have a weatherproof marquee for summer's damper days.
It comes complete with a bar serving juices, cocktails and beers from Camden Town Brewery (camdentownbrewery.com) along with picnic food. Items billed to feature on the menu include salad boxes as well as pulled pork tacos, beef rendang sliders, toasted sandwiches and a 'manwich' – a super-size sandwich filled with pulled pork and cheese.

Desserts will include peanut butter and jelly cookies, cookie dough cheesecake and the pudding cup which consists of salted caramel, smashed Oreos and chocolate crumble honeycomb.
The entrance will not be via the hotel itself, but through a discrete back entrance on Oxford Street next to a tourist shop selling Union Jack-emblazoned tat.
The concept has been thought-up and is being run by the hotel restaurant’s general manager Ashley Dawes, who has also worked with Soho bar Milk & Honey (mlkhny.com) and The Cocktail Factory led by Tony Conigliaro of 69 Colebrooke Row (69colebrookerow.com).
The rooftop will be open from 10am-10pm daily and access will be free of charge with no bookings taken.
