This is the most famous gay pub in the world. Armistead Maupin's Tales Of The City character Mouse visited it when he was in London - and had a certain amount of success there, it has to be said. It is now also one of the most spectacular gay pubs in the world. Last year Bass spent a small fortune transforming the interior. It's now all shiny brass and clinkety-clank metal catwalks from where you survey the scene. A huge model of a man in leathers and chains is suspended from the ceiling - I am reliably informed he is called Muscle Mary. This speaks much of the clientele: lots of burly men in leather chaps enjoying the agreeable air of sin. Not for the faint-hearted.
