A quirky converted windmill with a bespoke curved kitchen and four bedrooms built into its five circular floors has been listed for sale near the white cliffs of Dover.

Built in 1849, Grade II-listed Swingate Mill is steeped in history. Original beams are visible throughout and an original millstone still sits in the beautifully maintained and mature garden.

It sits at the end of a quiet lane and the upper floors of the mill provide incredible views across Kent’s coastal countryside. Kingsdown beach is minutes away.

The property was converted for residential use in the Eighties, when the ground floor outer ring of the mill was altered to provide the main living area.

The current owners have updated and improved the property while maintaining the building’s historic identity.

The 2,270sq ft property also includes a separate cottage. There are four bedrooms in the mill building – which is spread across five floors – and a further lounge and bedroom in the separate cottage.

Each floor of the mill gets slightly smaller as you ascend. There’s a lounge on the first floor, with doors that open onto the roof of the outer ring – the new owner could apply for permission to turn the circular platform into a vast 360-degree balcony.

There’s a fourth bedroom on the second floor, a 100sq ft room on the third and finally a storage room on the fourth floor.

The kitchen, three bedrooms and two bathrooms surround a circular ground floor sitting room.

The shape of the mill means the ground floor has a massive bespoke curved kitchen with handcrafted oak worktops. It includes a range cooker and underfloor heating.

There are direct trains to London Bridge from nearby Dover Priory station and fast trains take just over 90 minutes. An annual season ticket from Dover Priory to London Terminals is £5,468. That rises to £6,544 if you want to use Southeastern’s new high-speed services.

For sale through Miles and Barr for £750,000.
