You only have to scroll through interiors accounts on Instagram to find every other image is an impressive statement gallery wall with bold designs and bright patterns.

Picking up a print from your travels or your favourite illustrator is a great way to add personalty and colour to your walls.

You may choose to let your feelings known with striking typography, or be reminded of your favourite place with a intricately designed map.

However, there is a knack to creating the perfect gallery wall.

On a mission to decorate her Thirties home one gallery wall at a time, Emma Barry from @Flawsomehome has some expert tips on how to introduce the trend on to your walls.

Emma Barry showcases her favourite wall art in her living room

1. Position prints close together

In order to make an impact, make sure you place all the frames close together. You'll also be able to display much more of your favourite prints on a wall.

"Although it's definitely more time consuming and more expensive as you need lots of art, I recommend putting them close together to create a statement", suggests Emma.

"Make sure you have an even amount of space between each frame."

2. Add personality

A gallery wall is a chance to make your stamp and include prints of things important to you.

"I'm drawn to art that relates to my personality, so music that I love, trainers and quotes," reveals Emma.

"I also try to squeeze in family photos and my kids' art, which make it more personal to me."

3. Don't be afraid to mix and match frames

Don't get too hung up on everything matching. You don't have to use the same size frame or the same colour.

In fact, it creates more of a statement on a wall if everything is mixed.

"Since I've added gallery walls into my house, the house feels much more interesting, fun and colourful", explains Emma.

"For me, I find random placing of different sizes and coloured frames the easiest way to make an impact."
