Scandinavian dream team: Ikea teams up with Danish designers HAY to create hot new interiors collection

The contemporary collection with HAY draws inspiration from Scandi architecture, fashion and art, resulting in playful textiles, clean lines and simple colours.

The Copenhagen-based husband and wife duo behind the brand, founded in 2002, were keen to update Ikea's most iconic pieces without straying too far from the brand's ethos. The end result, which will be launched on October 1, online and in store, is simple and practical, with a stylish twist.

Although the collection is due to be on sale for only a year, certain products could continue to be sold for longer if they prove popular.

One of the things they put their stamp on was the iconic Ikea plastic bag. Starting from £1.50, the bag uses the same material and dimensions as the original, yet has a different weaving pattern and come in three different colours.

If you're after something to update your home, opt for the coloured metal mirror. They come in three different sizes and colours, starting from £12 for the smallest size.

They've been tested for humidity, so they're perfect for bathroom use.

Alternatively, the HAY hero of the collaboration is the sleek armchair on sale for £60, above, made with a injection mould and a single shot of plastic. After 30 seconds, a strong yet lightweight chair appears.

A dining chair and a lower lounge chair, £75, are available, and choose one of the many multi-coloured cushion covers, £5, on offer to add a finishing touch
