The go-to holiday spot for Turkish intelligentsia since the Thirties, it's an Aegean coastal town with an impeccable classical past — the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (Bodrum's ancient name), is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the city is the birthplace of Herodotus, the "father of history".
