Drake has left fans reeling after name-checking Maya Jama in his latest track.

The 33-year-old has teamed up with rapper Headie One for new song Only You Freestyle, which was released earlier this week.

The Canadian rapper shocked music lovers by giving a shout out to Jama, 25, in the opening few bars.

“Chubbs might jam this yute for a chain,” Drake freestyles before quickly adding: “And gave it to a sweet one, called that Maya Jama.”

Drake’s reference to the former BBC Radio 1 DJ saw fans flock to social media to speculate what Jama’s ex, Stormzy, would make of the new song.

This Twitter user expressed her utter surprise at the name check

One compared Jama to meme queen Gemma Collins after hearing the song

While others humorously guessed what Stormzy’s reaction might be

The Shut Up grime star, 26, previously dated Jama for four years, before the pair split in 2019.

Stormzy appears to still hold a candle for Jama, having previously told Charlamagne Tha God: “I would love to be the man who she…I would love to do all the things that make it work, I want to marry her, I want to have her children. All of that.”

Neither Jama nor Stormzy, real name Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., have publicly responded to Drake’s shout-out at the time of writing.

Jama is currently on holiday after appearing as a host on BBC One show Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer.

She recently quit her popular BBC Radio 1 weekend breakfast programme, citing “exciting commitments later in the year.”

In a statement, Jama explained: “Thanks to all you cuties that tuned into the show.

“It was so great to hear that we have been getting the largest proportion of under-35s tuning in for our on-demand show via BBC Sounds.

“So we are going out with a bang! Love you.”
