A dog that nearly died after flames ripped through an east London is being fostered by one of the firefighters who helped rescue her.
Firefighters said they found Millie the Jack Russell lifeless under a bed at a blaze in Forest View Road, Manor Park on June 28.
The London Fire Brigade crews managed to revive Millie and the dog is now living with lead firefighter Jamie Trew.
The brigade said part of the bedroom of a ground floor flat was alright when crews arrived at the scene at around 9.50pm.
One woman left the property before the arrival of the firefighters and she was treated on scene for smoke inhalation by paramedics and taken to hospital.
Station Officer Dean Ivil, who was at the scene, said: “When crews arrived there was a fully developed fire in the ground floor bedroom. They were met by a woman outside who told them that her dog was still inside the flat.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and tackled the fire before carrying out a thorough search.
"They lifted the bed and found the lifeless body of Millie the Jack Russell underneath."
The firefighters gave Millie oxygen, used cold water to cool her body temperature and she eventually regained consciousness.
Station Officer Dean Ivil said after a short stay at the vet, Millie's owner agreed that she could be fostered.
He added: “It’s a lovely ending for what could have been a tragic story and if her owner decides it’s best, Millie has a forever home with Jamie and his family.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the brigade and the Metropolitan Police.
