Bank holiday will see warmest day

The Bank Holiday weekend could see the warmest day of the year so far, weather experts predicted today

On Sunday, temperatures could rise to 24C (75F) and Saturday will also be warm at up to 22C (72F).

Michael Dukes, from the PA WeatherCentre, said: "It's not going to be the most settled weekend so don't expect unbroken sunshine.

"The winds are going to swing round to the south on Saturday bringing much warmer air in off the continent.

"That could push temperatures to maybe 22C (72F) in the south on Saturday and possibly 24C (75F) on Sunday."

But, Mr Dukes warned, the high temperatures could spark a few thunderstorms on Sunday.

"It's going to be a mixed weekend in many places but quite a bit warmer than recently.

"There are likely to be showers with some sunny spells, with the changeable, but warm, weather lasting into Bank Holiday Monday."

The highest recorded temperature so far this year was 21.6C (about 72F) on March 19.
