British paedophile who jumped bail finally held in Thailand

A man wanted in the UK to face a child rape allegation is being held by police in Thailand.

Sean McMahon is facing extradition to the UK accused of raping a young girl.

McMahon, 45, of Torquay, Devon, was charged in 1999 but left the UK while on bail, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

The allegation relates to a period between 1997 and 1998, a spokesman for the force said.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said today that McMahon had been detained in Thailand and was remanded to appear in court tomorrow.

McMahon was arrested in his Bangkok flat yesterday, according to news reports.

Thai Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit Thoopkrajang said: "The suspect will be repatriated back to England to face the charges in accordance with the extradition treaty."

Devon and Cornwall Police said that the alleged victim's relatives were being informed.
