The star of cult Danish drama The Killing told today of the Norway massacre's devastating effect on the whole region.

Sofie Gråbøl, who plays detective inspector Sarah Lund in the thriller, said: "I think all Scandinavians are deeply affected. We have a romantic image of our little corner of the world as a peaceful and protected society and the brutality of this forensically planned act is just horrifying.

"Once again we are faced with the dilemma of freedom of speech; ideally [Anders Breivik] shouldn't be allowed this vast stage to spread his sick visions. For that reason, it's even more moving to see the way the Norwegians have dealt with the tragedy, with such dignity and unity."

The actress was speaking in the October issue of Psychologies magazine, out now.
