Charlie Gilmour: to appeal his jail term

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour's son has launched an appeal against his 16-month jail sentence for going on a drink- and drug-fuelled rampage at a student fees protest.

Charlie Gilmour, 21, above, of Billingshurst, West Sussex, admitted violent disorder in Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square last year.

During a day of riots, he was seen hanging from a Union flag on the Cenotaph and leaping on to the bonnet of a car in a royal convoy. He was also found to have hurled a rubbish bin at the vehicle.
