Chinese apology over rail tragedy

A Chinese railway research institute today took responsibility for a signalling flaw that led a high-speed train to hit a stalled train, killing 39 people.

Railway authorities said a signal remained green when it should have turned red after lightning hit the train that stalled.

Premier Wen Jiabao visited the crash site near Wenzhou in Zhejiang province after the official handling of Saturday's accident provoked widespread anger and protests.
