Contamination shuts Rio Tinto mine

AUSTRALIA'S Ranger uranium mine and processing plant have been shut down after workers complained of contaminated water, with subsequent tests showing it contained low levels of uranium.

The mine and plant, 150 miles east of Darwin in Australia's far north and surrounded by Kakadu National Park, are 68.4% owned by Rio Tinto.
