Cyclists mount 'flashride' in speed limit protest

Cyclists today took to their bikes to protest against a proposed rise in the speed limit on Blackfriars Bridge. Campaigners organised the "flashride" against Transport for London plans to raise the limit from 20 to 30mph.

Transport bosses were forced to abandon plans to axe a cycle lane leading to Blackfriars Bridge after an outcry over safety. The proposals had involved replacing the westbound cycle lane with a third lane for vehicles and more space for pedestrians.

But London Cycling Campaign demanded that the 20mph limit be retained and called on Mayor Boris Johnson to intervene.
