Essex builder is 'Albanian killer'

12 April 2012

A suspected Albanian gangster wanted for a machinegun murder is awaiting extradition after being arrested while working as a builder in Essex.

Ardian Rragami, 38, had claimed to be a Kosovan national and had been granted leave to remain in Britain after claiming asylum.

Posing as a man named Ardian Gashi, he was living in Woodford with his wife and two children when he was seized by officers from Scotland Yard's extradition squad.

Rragami is wanted in Albania, where he is alleged to have shot a man after an argument in a bar in July 1998. He has appeared at City of Westminster magistrates' court on an extradition order.
