Father guilty of honour killing plot

13 April 2012

A Sikh father was facing a substantial jail sentence today for plotting the honour killing of his daughter and her Jewish boyfriend.

Kalvinder Dosanjh, 51, hired a hitman to kill Temple Jazac's father after Temple, 42, ran off with Dosanjh's daughter Sanjit, 23.

And when the couple came out of hiding to attend the funeral, the hitman was under orders to gun them down too, the Old Bailey heard.

But the hitman turned out to be an undercover police officer and Dosanjh was arrested with a sawn-off shotgun in his van after promising to pay £10,000 for each killing.

It was only then that Dosanjh discovered that he had targeted south Londoner Malcolm Calver by mistake, thinking he was Temple's father. He had nothing to do with him.

Builder Dosanjh had decided they must die to save the family's honour in the Sikh community, the court was told.

Dosanjh, of Higham Road, Wainscott, Rochester, Kent, was found guilty by an 11-1 majority verdict of three charges of soliciting murder and possessing a prohibited weapon.
