Five fathers fail DNA tests

12 April 2012

DNA tests carried out on five men after a 12-year-old girl became pregnant have shown none was the father of her baby.

The five were arrested after the girl, now 13, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, told police she had sex with them before she got pregnant.

A police spokeswoman today said two of the five, both now 17, admitted having sex with the girl but would not be prosecuted for statutory rape.

The Crown Prosecution Service decided not to press charges against the youths, who were 16 when they had sex with the girl, but they have been formally cautioned and will be placed on the sex offenders' register for two-anda-half years.

The other three men, aged between 17 and 26, have been told no further action will be taken against them due to insufficient evidence. The spokeswoman added: "We are not pursuing further inquiries on the case."

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, gave birth in October.
